New Homes Interiors
Common Ground Architecture developed the interior design of all the new homes developed by Brick by Brick since 2016.
The interiors have a distinct character which echoes Victorian style, combining this with softer, natural tones, and keeping the design light, thereby allowing future residents to make their own mark. The herringbone motif in the entrance lobby is inspired by the geometric pattern of Victorian tiled hallways, and is continued into the living spaces and bathrooms. The pattern gets ‘quieter’ as you enter the more private areas of the home. The intention was to create an interior which is a good level of ordinary that prioritises quality natural materials in the areas that you touch like the worktops and handles.
Materials can account for between 16-25% of a building’s carbon footprint. We are committed to genuinely addressing the climate challenge and part of being a ‘One Planet Living’ leader, which includes choosing sustainably sourced and produced products, whilst maintaining a high design quality within the home. In order to create a smaller footprint, our overall aim is to use less. We design more efficiently, reducing wastage by using the full dimensions of pre-fabricated elements., reducing the use of virgin materials and considering buildability, ease of maintenance and end of life of all materials. We favour natural and renewable materials where possible, for example, using ceramic tiles with a high recycled content. We prioritise local suppliers, minimising travel distance to reduce carbon footprint, whilst supporting local trade.
